A Little Bit About Me

I have been speaking publicly for 17 years and have keynoted more than 200 events and services. I have also made dozens of media appearances, including interviews by The Huffington Post, Focus on the Family and Catholic Answers Live.

In terms of platform:

• I have spoken in front of more than 22,000 people in the span of my career.
• I have spoken in five countries and in 22 of the 50 states, including Washington DC.
• To date, more than 145,000 people have read the ERI blog.

I have been happily married to my wife, Hannah, for 13 years. We have three sons, Noah, William and Eli.

6 Practical Dialogue Tips: What We’ve Learned from Talking with 5,000 Pro-Choice People
In this lecture, I will share our best tips for creating the kind of conversational environment where people are the most likely to change their minds. This is one of our most fun speeches, filled with great stories of conversations to illustrate our points.

The Most Persuasive Pro-Life Argument
In 2013, a group of advocates from multiple pro-life organizations started heavily experimenting with a different way of arguing for the personhood of the unborn. We were all shocked at how much more effective it was at changing the minds of pro-choice people than any other argument we had used before. We call it the Equal Rights Argument. This argument masterfully takes premises that almost all pro-choice people already strongly agree with, and demonstrates that the only reasonable conclusion is that the unborn is a person with a right to live.

Understanding and Responding to “My Body, My Choice”
The strongest pro-choice argument is one that grants the entire pro-life case that the unborn is a full human being (like an adult). But it goes on to claim that abortion should still be legal because women have a right to control their own bodies. Pro-life advocates shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss these “bodily rights” arguments, but they also don’t need to be afraid of them. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or new to sharing the pro-life message, I will give you a roadmap for making a powerful case against these arguments. The audience will leave ready to engage any pro-choice advocate who defends abortion with “bodily rights” arguments.

9 Faulty Pro-Life Arguments & Tactics
Want to be the most effective pro-life ambassador possible? This presentation will certainly help you do that! While surprising to some audiences, pro-lifers occasionally make arguments that are easily refutable. They also sometimes use tactics during abortion debates that are counter-productive. Josh carefully analyzes nine examples in this presentation.

Relational Apologetics: How to Cultivate Friendship Amidst Challenging Conversations
“Relational apologetics” means cultivating relationships with people who have different beliefs, for the sake of genuine friendship and for discovering truth together.

Josh illustrates with multiple stories from his life of pro-choice friends he’s spent time with discussing abortion. He also illustrates with some inspiring stories of other people whose lives have been changed through unlikely friendships. After making two arguments for why people ought to have a pro-choice friend, Josh offers several practical tips for cultivating friendships with people who disagree about important issues.

Considering Abortion in a Post-Roe America
2022 changed everything about the abortion conversation in the United States. The Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, but few people on either side of the abortion issue fully understand the logical implications and real-world results of different views of abortion, which are now being enshrined in law in states throughout the US. In this talk, Josh will move beyond slogans to help you base your position on abortion in facts and strong philosophical arguments and will share his own conclusions. You will leave with a better understanding of the strengths and failings of many pro-life and pro-choice arguments, and there will be an opportunity to ask specific questions in an open and inclusive Q&A.
