We’re Hiring a Bookkeeper!

ERI is hiring a part-time bookkeeper with experience in day to day bookkeeping and preparing accounting reports for nonprofit organizations. We expect this to be a 15-20 hour/week job for an independent contractor.

Summary

Your responsibilities will include tracking our organization’s revenue and expenses, preparing monthly bank reconciliations, tying out the general ledger to monthly statements, tracking donor contributions, and preparing monthly financial reports.

You will also be responsible for reviewing and reconciling our books to ensure our records are correct.

You should be able to not only enter data, but to understand when the end product does and doesn’t make sense. 

Responsibilities

Below are some of the responsibilities a bookkeeper is expected to assume in their position:

  • Process all weekly contributions
  • Post financial transactions to accounts and prepare financial statements
  • Prepare and maintain spreadsheets communicating support account balances and contributions to our support-raising employees
  • Prepare accounting records by compiling and analyzing account information
  • Reconcile the organization’s financial records to help ensure the accuracy of financial statements
  • Assist the Treasurer with the preparation of the annual 990 and North Carolina solicitation license renewal
  • Assist the Administrator with tasks related to payroll and sales tax
  • Study financial trends to determine future business needs

Job Qualifications and Skill Sets

Below are the qualifications expected of a bookkeeper:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field
  • 2-3 years of non-profit bookkeeping experience
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, and accounting systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online or Aplos; experience with other accounting software
  • Familiar with tracking contributions from PayPal, Stripe, and donor-advised funds
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and able to prioritize
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-starter
